The Indian Society of Paediatric Radiology (ISPR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing Paediatric Radiology in India, recognizing the unique healthcare needs of children. It promotes education, research, and collaboration, supports the training of young radiologists, and assists government and non-government organizations in paediatric imaging. ISPR organizes an annual Mid-term National CME and National Conference, publishes a biannual E-Newsletter, collaborates with global societies such as WFPI and AOSPR, and is led by a dedicated team committed to advancing the specialty.

Two decades of excellence in paediatric radiology

2003
ISPR Founded

The Indian Society of Paediatric Radiology (ISPR) was founded in 2003, fulfilling the vision of Prof. M. V. K. Shetty with the support of Prof. Arcot Gajaraj. The society was officially inaugurated on 12 December 2003 during the 1st National Conference at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry.

Key Highlights:

  • Inaugurated by Prof. T. D. Durairajan and presided over by Prof. V. P. Narayanan.
  • Launched during the 56th Annual State Conference of IRIA (Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Chapter) with support from TN & PY IRIA.
  • Received international goodwill messages from Prof. Dorothy Bulas (USA) and Prof. Helen Carty (UK).
  • The ISPR logo was designed by Dr. S. Vetriraj, and the founding Executive Committee was formed to serve until 2008.
  • The first Prof. M. V. K. Shetty and Prof. Arcot Gajaraj Endowment Orations were delivered during the inaugural conference.
2004
2nd Annual Conference

The 2nd Annual Conference was held in Mumbai on 11–12 December 2004 under the chairmanship of Prof. Mukund Joshi. The conference featured the second Shetty and Gajaraj Endowment Orations. ISPR also decided to organize annual conferences regularly, initiate society registration, and prepare its constitution.

2005
3rd Annual Conference

The 3rd Annual Conference was held at AIIMS, New Delhi, on 1–2 October 2005 under the patronage of Dr. Arun Kumar Gupta. On 10 March 2005, ISPR lost its Founder Patron Coordinator, Prof. Arcot Gajaraj, marking the end of an era of visionary leadership.

2006
Official Registration

ISPR was officially registered at the Registrar of Societies, Pondicherry, by Prof. J. R. Daniel.

Major Events:

  • 1st Mid-Term CME held in Lucknow on 22 July 2006, organized by Prof. Neera Kohli.
  • 4th Annual Conference held in Kolkata on 23–24 September 2006 under Dr. S. K. Sharma, attracting many new members.
2007
5th National Conference

The 5th National Conference was organized in Hyderabad on 22–23 September 2007 under Prof. Rama Subbaraidu, with the patronage of Prof. Kakarla Subba Rao, continuing the society's academic growth.

2008
6th National Conference

The year was marked by the loss of several founding members, including Prof. M. V. K. Shetty, Prof. J. R. Daniel, Prof. M. Panchatcharam, and Dr. Ravi.

The 6th National Conference was held at Chettinad Health City, Chennai on 20–21 September 2008, where a new Executive Committee was elected with Dr. S. K. Sharma as National President and Dr. Jayaraj Govindaraj as Secretary General.

2009
Constitution Amendments

The 2nd Mid-Term CME was organized in Shimla on 31 May 2009 with support from the Himachal Pradesh IRIA. ISPR also mourned the passing of Prof. Elizabeth John. Later, the 7th National Conference was held in New Delhi on 12–13 September 2009. During 2009–2010, the ISPR Constitution received its final amendments.

2010
Growth & Leadership

Major Events:

  • 3rd Mid-Term CME held in Kolkata on 25 April 2010.
  • 8th National Conference organized in Pune on 4–5 September 2010.
  • Elections for the 2010–2012 Executive Committee were held, with Prof. P. C. Rajaram elected as National President.
2011
9th National Conference

The 9th National Conference was held in Jaipur on 8–9 October 2011, organized by Dr. Pradeep Parakh and his team, with strong participation from Rajasthan radiologists.

2012
PEDIRAD 2012

The 4th Mid-Term CME (PEDIRAD 2012) was organized in Ahmednagar on 26 February 2012 with record participation. Later, the 10th Annual National Conference was held at PGIMER, Chandigarh, on 29–30 September 2012.

2013
11th National Conference

The 11th National Conference took place in Ahmedabad on 5–6 October 2013 under Dr. Kalpesh Shah and Dr. Dinesh Patel. The conference featured a successful scientific programme under the leadership of President Dr. Harshad Shah and Secretary Dr. Akshay Saxena.

2014
Leadership Transition

Major Events:

  • 6th Mid-Term CME held in Bhubaneswar on 25 May 2014.
  • 12th National Conference organized at CMC Vellore on 12–13 September 2014.
  • A new Executive Committee was elected with Dr. N. Khandelwal as National President.
2015
13th National Conference

The 7th Mid-Term CME was held in Goa on 30 May 2015. The 13th National Conference took place at King George's Medical University, Lucknow, on 11–12 September 2015 under Prof. Neera Kohli. It became one of ISPR's most successful conferences, achieving record financial savings for the society.

2016
Directory Launch

The 14th National Conference was organized in Kolkata on 10–11 September 2016.

Key Highlights:

  • Launch of the 2nd Edition of the ISPR Members Directory.
  • Election of a new National Executive Committee, with Dr. Jayaraj Govindaraj becoming National President.
2017
Record Participation

The year featured both the 8th Mid-Term CME and the 15th National Conference.

Key Highlights:

  • 8th Mid-Term CME on 25 June 2017 in Bengaluru, focused on Paediatric Neuroradiology, with over 200 delegates and international participation.
  • 15th National Conference held in Pune on 9–10 September 2017.
  • Over 250 delegates, distinguished national and international faculty, record postgraduate participation, and award-winning oral and poster presentations.
2018
AOSPR Collaboration

ISPR jointly hosted the 18th Asian & Oceanic Society for Paediatric Radiology (AOSPR) Congress and the 16th ISPR Annual Conference at PGIMER, Chandigarh, on 14–16 September 2018.

Key Highlights:

  • Attended by 738 delegates from India and abroad.
  • Included international faculty, scientific sessions, workshops, fellowship discussions, oral papers, and e-poster presentations.
  • Featured the prestigious Prof. M. V. K. Shetty and Prof. Arcot Gajaraj Endowment Orations.
2019
Academic Milestones

The 10th National Mid-Term CME was organized at JIPMER, Puducherry, on 30–31 March 2019.

Major Events:

  • Around 230 delegates participated.
  • Included live ultrasound workshops, research presentations, e-posters, and interactive film-reading sessions.
  • The 17th Annual National Conference was later held at AIIMS, New Delhi, on 7–8 September 2019 under Dr. Neera Kohli and Dr. Kushaljit S. Sodhi.
2020
Pandemic Pause

No Annual National Conference was conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021
Virtual Continuity

The 19th Annual National Conference was held online from Chennai on 9 October 2021. During the conference, Dr. C. V. Kanimozhi was appointed as the new ISPR E-Newsletter Editor.

2022
Return to In-Person

The 20th Annual National Conference was held in Jaipur on 27–28 August 2022, under the leadership of National President Dr. Neera Kohli and Secretary General Dr. Kushaljit S. Sodhi.

2023
21st National Conference

The 21st Annual National Conference took place at Corinthians Resort, Pune, on 9–10 September 2023, continuing ISPR's tradition of academic excellence under Dr. Neera Kohli and Dr. Kushaljit S. Sodhi.

2024
22nd National Conference

The 22nd Annual National Conference was organized at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre, Lucknow, on 21–22 September 2024, under the leadership of National President Dr. Akshay Saxena and Secretary General Dr. Sridhar Gibikote, marking another milestone in ISPR's continued growth and contribution to paediatric radiology.
